  1. Tuesday 4 September, Period 1

Starter Q’s – squares, square roots, properties of triangles.
Maths4Real ‘Pythagoras’ video (15 mins) to introduce topic.
    Complete accompanying worksheet during video.
Class discussion then Tick or Trash worksheet.

  2. Video worked well, most picked up quickly. Worksheets completed.

  3. Wednesday 5 September, Period 5

Recap key points made in video. Worked examples in jotter then Ex4 – Calculating the Hypotenuse.

  4. Patterns starter went well. Discussion then completed E4 up to Q6.

  5. Thursday 6 September, Period 2

Maths4Real Tick or Trash worksheet as starter. Complete Ex4 Q9 (a)-(f) then Pythagoras problems Ex5. Q1-8.

  6. All pupils very confident at finding hypotenuse. Some pupils past Q9.

  7. Monday 10 September, Period 4

Starter – Domino group activity on linear sequences.
    Pythagoras – finding a shorter side, Ex6.

  8. Domino activity took about half period – but very worthwhile.
    Discussed HW then completed Q1-2.

  9. Tuesday 11 September, Period 1

DST & Pythagoras starter problem. Look at Ex6 Q9 as class.
    Mixed examples Ex7.

    Homework: Pythagoras Review Ex

    Due: Tuesday 18 September

  10. Very good work by class. All on or past Q6.

  11. Wednesday 12 September, Period 5

Complete Ex7 – Mixed Pythogoras calculations.

  12. All completed Ex7, some almost finished Topic in a Nutshell Ex.

  13. Thursday 13 September, Period 2

Maths4Real ‘Tick or Trash’ worksheet as starter. Discuss face/space diagonals and complete worked example then ‘Spider’ problem.
    Pythagoras Problems worksheet.

  14. Starter and Spider problem completed. Most of class nearly finished worksheet.

  15. Monday 17 September, Period 4

Converse of Pythagoras, discussion then worksheet.
    Reminder homework due tomorrow.

  16. Decided to have a go with Qwizdom Interactive Voting system with the class, using a Level E mental test as a starter (didn’t have a level F one in Qwizdom). Class enjoyed this but did take 30 minutes!

Gave triangle with 3 lengths and asked whether right-angled or not. All worked out to use Pythagoras to check long side against short sides, some picked wrong ‘long side’! Discussion, worked examples then completed first side of worksheet.

  17. Tuesday 18 September, Period 1

Complete Converse of Pythagoras worksheet – 20 minutes.
In groups solve Castle Moat problem (ppt).
